Group Captain Asim’s Killer Arrested Within 9 Hours: IG

ISLAMABAD : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi announced on Monday that the prime suspect in the killing of Group Captain Asim, identified as Saad Abbasi, was apprehended within nine hours of the tragic incident.

Addressing a press conference alongside DIG Operations Jawad Tariq, the IGP detailed the events that led to the martyrdom of the Group Captain, who lost his life while attempting to intervene in a dispute between a woman and the accused.

According to the IGP, the incident occurred at 11:21 AM when Group Captain Asim witnessed a heated altercation between Saad Abbasi and a young woman named Nimra. Demonstrating exemplary civic responsibility and human compassion, the Group Captain stepped in to stop the accused from misbehaving with the woman. However, Saad Abbasi became enraged and opened fire, resulting in the martyrdom of Asim.

The IGP revealed that both Saad Abbasi and the woman Nimra were employees at a private cash-and-carry store located in the G-6 sector. The accused had allegedly wanted to take the woman to a park or another location, but she was unwilling and preferred to remain at her workplace.

“The relationship between the two was limited to pick-and-drop for approximately 10 days,” said Rizvi. “The woman did not even know where the accused lived.”

The IGP described the case as a significant challenge for the police force, prompting the immediate formation of 11 special teams to investigate the matter.

Using Safe City cameras, AI technology, digital surveillance, and physical intelligence, the investigators tracked the accused’s clothing, motorcycle, and movements. Despite the suspect’s efforts to evade capture—including obtaining a Skyway ticket, switching off his mobile phone, and changing his clothes—police teams successfully arrested him after a relentless nine-hour pursuit.

“I want to make it clear that action will be taken against the accused Saad Abbasi in accordance with the law, and he will receive the punishment he deserves,” the IGP affirmed.

Paying tribute to the martyred officer, Rizvi said, “Group Captain Asim demonstrated high patriotism, courage, and civic responsibility. He tried to help a woman in distress, which cost him his life, but his bravery will always be remembered.”
