QUETTA: The Quetta sit-in has been called off following successful late-night negotiations between Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and a committee representing the families of victims.
Bugti visited the sit-in near BA Mall, where he met members of the protest committee and bereaved families. After the meeting, the committee announced it was ending the protest at the chief minister’s request.
Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar led the negotiations. Senator Manzoor Kakar and Quetta Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar also attended the meeting.
Bugti said he had remained in contact with the protest committee since the first day of the demonstration and would continue to stand with the people.
“I have a bond with you and your elders. I stood with my people, I stand with them today, and I will continue to stand with them,” he said.
The chief minister said the government would acknowledge any mistakes and take steps to address them.
“If the government has made any mistake, we will admit it and make amends,” he said.
Bugti pledged to fulfill all commitments made by his government.
He announced financial compensation for the families of the victims, government jobs for eligible heirs, and educational support for their children.
The chief minister said key decisions had been taken in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He said the government would fully implement those decisions.
Bugti also vowed to take strict action against those seeking to undermine the state or damage the province’s reputation.
