US Seeks New Coalition as Strait of Hormuz Shipping Disruptions Persist

WASHINGTON: Efforts have been intensified by the United States to form a new international coalition aimed at restoring maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, according to US media reports.

Washington has been reported to have approached multiple countries, seeking participation in the proposed alliance to ensure safe navigation through the key waterway.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the initiative has been described as a “Maritime Freedom Construct.”

The proposed framework is said to include intelligence sharing, diplomatic coordination, and cooperation in the enforcement of sanctions among participating states.

Details of the plan have been cited from an internal diplomatic cable issued by the U.S. State Department.

Despite earlier statements by U.S. President Donald Trump declaring the Strait of Hormuz open and secure for commercial activity, shipping disruptions have continued to be reported.

A directive was sent on Tuesday to U.S. embassies worldwide. Diplomats were instructed to engage host governments and encourage their participation in the initiative.

The coalition, if established, is expected to facilitate coordinated strategies and ensure the safe and uninterrupted flow of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, officials said.
