ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former South African cricketer Michael Smith as the batting coach of the Pakistan men’s national team on a two-year contract.
The PCB said the 46-year-old will work with the national side in both red-ball and white-ball formats.
Smith scored 7,029 runs across his first-class, List A and Twenty20 career. He hit nine centuries and 40 half-centuries.
The right-handed batter played 89 first-class, 72 List A and 16 T20 matches between 2003 and 2013.
He holds a Level 4 coaching qualification and has previously served on the coaching staff of three Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises: Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans.
Smith also worked as batting coach for Australia’s Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania. He has also served as a coaching consultant for South African domestic teams KZN Inland and Eastern Province.

According to the PCB, Smith will join the Pakistan squad before the three-match Test series against England, which begins on Aug. 19.
