LAHORE: Police have suspended the station house officer (SHO) and the entire staff of Lahore’s Ghaziabad police station over the alleged rape of a mentally disabled woman by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI).
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran visited the police station late at night and ordered the suspensions after finding delays in the investigation and failures to keep senior officers informed.
SHO Ghaziabad Shahryar was suspended and replaced by Ali Zaib Dastgir.
The DIG also suspended 78 police personnel, including sub-inspectors, eight assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), and five head constables. Front desk staff, the station clerk (moharrir), and drivers were also suspended.
Police registered a case related to the suspension of all personnel, including the SHO, at Ghaziabad police station.
The action follows an incident two days earlier in which Investigation ASI Imran was accused of raping a mentally disabled woman. Police registered a case against the ASI and arrested him.
