KARACHI: A Family of Five Found Dead in Karachi was discovered inside a flat in the Ahsanabad area of SITE on Sunday, with police saying the bodies appeared to have been there for several days. The deceased included a husband, wife and their three children. Police said suicide was among the possibilities being investigated, but the exact cause of death will only be established after postmortem examinations.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Zubair Nazir Sheikh said the bodies were found in a single room on the seventh floor of the building. The apartment door was reportedly locked from the inside.
Family of Five Found Dead in Karachi as Police Launch Investigation
According to police, the deceased man, identified as Dr Umar, was a doctor and the family’s sole breadwinner. His body, along with those of his wife and three children, was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after legal formalities were completed.
Police said Dr Umar had reportedly resigned from a private hospital on September 13 after being diagnosed with cancer. Investigators also said no mobile phone was found inside the apartment during the initial search.
A neighbour told police that the doctor had remained unemployed for some time after his clinic closed but had recently secured a job at East City Hospital. Another neighbour, Kamran, alerted authorities through the Madadgar 15 helpline after noticing a strong smell coming from the apartment.

Police said the apartment had to be entered by breaking down the door, while the key was reportedly found in Dr Umar’s possession.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar and the Inspector General of Police have sought detailed reports and directed authorities to conduct a transparent, impartial and evidence-based investigation.
Police said the final cause of death would be determined after postmortem examinations and further investigation.
