Quetta: The Department of Secondary Education, Government of Balochistan, has officially announced the summer vacation schedule for all public and private educational institutions located within the province’s cold winter zone regions.
According to the official notification, all schools in these colder districts will remain closed from July 18, 2026, to August 2, 2026.
This brief recess will be uniformly implemented across the designated areas. Regular academic activities and teaching schedules across both the summer and winter zones of the province are set to resume simultaneously on Monday, August 3, 2026.
The department has instructed all relevant administrators, divisional directors, and district education officers to ensure strict compliance with this timeline.
Context of Balochistan’s Seasonal Academic Split
Due to its vast geography and diverse topography, Balochistan experiences starkly contrasting climates, leading the education department to divide academic calendars into separate North (Winter) and South (Summer) zones.
The Winter Zone includes high-altitude regions such as Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Kan Mehtarzai, and Chaman, which experience severe, freezing winters and relatively mild summers.
Consequently, schools in these northern districts receive an extended winter break lasting two and a half months (usually from mid-December to late February) to avoid sub-zero temperatures.
In contrast, they only receive a short two-week break during the peak of summer, as announced in this latest notification.
The Summer Zone covers low-lying and southern plains areas like Sibi, Turbat, Lasbela, Naseerabad, and Jaffarabad, which endure scorching, intense heatwaves during the peak summer months.
Educational institutions in these zones receive a long, extended summer vacation (typically spanning from June through July) to protect students from extreme heat, while their winter recess is limited to a brief one-week break at the end of December.
