NDMA Predicts Monsoonal Rain Across Pakistan

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted thunderstorms and rain starting today, July 6th, across Kashmir, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, and Northeast Punjab.

From July 7th to 10th, intermittent rainfall—with heavy downpours in isolated areas—is expected in the upper catchment regions of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.

The NDMA further forecasted that the intensity of these rains will increase on July 7th, expanding to Islamabad, Pothohar, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, North Punjab, and Northern Balochistan.

While this weather system is anticipated to cause a minor increase in water inflows at the Tarbela and Mangla dams, as well as a slight rise in the water flow of major rivers, the NDMA clarified that there is currently no threat of large-scale flooding.

However, localized sudden flow increases remain likely in mountainous streams and small seasonal nullahs.

Heavy spells may also lead to waterlogging and inundation in low-lying urban areas, while hilly terrains within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir face a risk of landslides and mudslides during periods of intense downpours.
