WASHINGTON : Vice President JD Vance will not take part in the next round of negotiations with Iran, but he and Secretary of State Marco Rubio could travel to Pakistan if circumstances require, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt told Fox News on Saturday.
Levitt said that while Vance will not join U.S. representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in the initial phase of talks, he remains on standby alongside Rubio and other senior officials.
“The Vice President is involved in this whole process and he will be here ready,” Levitt said. She added that “if needed, everyone will be ready to go to Pakistan.”
The comments clarify the administration’s contingency planning for the Iran negotiations, suggesting that Pakistan could play a role in potential diplomatic escalation or back-channel discussions. No further details were provided on the nature or timing of any possible trip to Islamabad.
