TEHRAN: There are thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran on Saturday to pay their final respects during the public viewing of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family members at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla.
In this regard, the previous day was reserved for visits by international delegations, which attended the venue to offer condolences, recite prayers, and sign condolence books.
The bodies have been placed in glass coffins inside the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla, where thousands of mourners began arriving early in the morning.
The central courtyard of the complex quickly filled with people, while strict traffic restrictions were enforced across the capital to facilitate the large gathering.
In this sense, many mourners reportedly walked several kilometres to reach the venue, while metro stations experienced unusually heavy passenger traffic as visitors continued to arrive throughout the day.
Furthermore, Iran’s Ministry of Education announced that more than 5,000 schools and approximately 40,000 to 50,000 classrooms have been opened nationwide to provide temporary accommodation for visitors attending the funeral events.
The public farewell and upcoming funeral are expected to be among the largest gatherings in recent years, reflecting the significance of the occasion.
The funeral proceedings are expected to draw widespread domestic and international attention as dignitaries, officials, and members of the public continue to arrive in Tehran to participate in the ceremonies.
