Iranian FM Arrives in St. Petersburg for Talks with Putin

Iran FM looks to more nuclear talks, but warns US

ST. PETERSBURG :  Iranian Foreign Minister FM Abbas Araqchi arrived in St. Petersburg on Monday for a high-level meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Iran’s state-run news agency.

The Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency (IRNA) reported that Araqchi’s aircraft, operating under the call sign Minab 168, landed in the Russian city ahead of what is being described as a major diplomatic engagement. The call sign was chosen in memory of the children who lost their lives in an attack on a primary school in the city of Minab on February 28, which Iran has attributed to U.S. and Israeli forces.

The upcoming talks between Araqchi and Putin are expected to focus on bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow, as well as the broader regional situation. The meeting underscores the deepening strategic coordination between the two nations amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Neither the Kremlin nor the Iranian Foreign Ministry has released further details regarding the specific agenda. However, analysts suggest that issues such as economic cooperation, energy security, and developments in the Middle East and the Caucasus are likely to feature prominently.

Araqchi’s visit comes at a time when Russia and Iran have been expanding their partnership across multiple sectors, including defense and trade.
