WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump claimed during a media interaction that negotiations with Iran are underway, describing it as a “last chance” for Tehran.
Speaking to journalists at an event in Washington, President Trump stated that the United States is holding discussions at Iran’s request and that matters between the two nations are progressing positively.
He remarked that direct or indirect talks with Iran will take place in some form soon.
President Trump reiterated that the United States cannot, under any circumstances, allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
He asserted that the Strait of Hormuz must be fully reopened by tomorrow, after which negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear program will follow.
He noted that oil companies are generating extraordinary profits, while adding that the restoration of the Strait of Hormuz is not a complex issue and will be resolved swiftly.
Regarding the United Kingdom, Trump stated that he desires good relations with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, though he cannot dictate how another nation should run its country.
He mentioned that immigration has become a major issue for Europe, and suggested that if the UK fully utilizes its North Sea oil reserves, it could secure affordable energy sufficient for hundreds of years.
President Trump further claimed that Iran itself contacted him to propose an agreement and request that no attacks be carried out.
According to him, “This is the actual truth and everyone is aware of it.” However, Iran has previously denied such US claims.
