ISLAMABAD: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi presented his country’s written conditions—intended for the United States—to Pakistani officials during a brief but high-stakes visit to Islamabad, according to the Iranian News Agency.
The written conditions explicitly outline Iran’s red lines regarding its nuclear program and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the agency reported. Among the key points, Araqchi discussed a proposed “new regime” for the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of blockades, compensation mechanisms, and a commitment to non-aggression.
Araqchi’s visit to Pakistan was short-lived; he departed for Russia shortly after concluding his engagements. During his time in Islamabad, he held important meetings with both political and military leadership, including two meetings with Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, within a 24-hour period.
Prior to his arrival in Pakistan, Araqchi also traveled to Muscat, where he met with the Sultan of Oman. During that stop, he held telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The development signals heightened diplomatic activity as Iran seeks to communicate its terms indirectly to Washington amid ongoing tensions over its nuclear ambitions and regional security arrangements.
