TEHRAN: Iranian media reported on Wednesday that six crew members of the cargo ship Toska have been released as a result of Iran’s diplomatic efforts.
According to Iranian media reports, the United States government recently seized the container ship Toska, which was bound for Iran. At the time of the operation, the vessel had 28 Iranian crew members on board.
Following the US seizure, Iran had stated that military action was avoided at this stage due to the presence of Iranian crew members and their families on the ship. However, officials had confirmed that efforts were underway at the official level to secure their release, adding that other necessary steps would also be taken in this regard.
Now, according to media reports citing Iranian officials, those efforts have yielded an initial result. Six of the crew members have been released and are currently in Iran. No further details about their condition or the circumstances of their release were immediately provided.
Authorities in Tehran have stated that efforts are continuing to secure the release of the remaining 22 Iranian citizens who remain on board the seized vessel.
There has been no immediate comment from US officials regarding the seizure or the reported release of the six crew members. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
