Young adult arrested after aerial firing near Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar's vehicle in Lahore

LAHORE: The young man has been arrested after allegedly opening aerial fire near the vehicle of Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar in Lahore’s Defence area, police said.

In this regard, the incident occurred late at night while Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar was travelling with his family. Recounting the incident, the minister said that a suspicious vehicle suddenly overtook his car from the left at high speed.

Tarar stated that the firing did not appear to be directly aimed at his vehicle, describing it as an incident of aerial firing rather than a targeted attack. Nevertheless, he immediately pursued the suspect’s vehicle and alerted police personnel stationed at a nearby checkpoint, providing them with details of the vehicle involved.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Defence ‘A’ Police Station. Upon receiving the information, law enforcement agencies launched an immediate operation to trace the suspect.

So far, the officials said the coordinated operation resulted in the successful arrest of the suspect within a short period. The firearm allegedly used in the firing was recovered during the arrest, while the vehicle driven by the accused was also seized as evidence.

Police confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to determine the motive behind the incident and to establish all relevant facts. Authorities said the suspect is being questioned, and legal proceedings have been launched in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, no injuries or property damage were reported in the incident. Officials have not indicated any evidence at this stage suggesting that the minister was the intended target of the firing. However, investigators are examining all aspects of the case.

Lahore Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the law through reckless or unlawful use of firearms. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
