ISLAMABAD: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world are observing Accession to Pakistan Day, commemorating the adoption of the historic resolution passed on July 19, 1947, by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in Srinagar.
The resolution indicated the collective political will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to accede to Pakistan.
The day is observed annually in Pakistan and among many Kashmiris as a symbol of their political aspirations and continued support for the right to self-determination.
The resolution is regarded by Pakistan as an important political and historical milestone, demonstrating the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir before the creation of Pakistan.
In this regard, the officials maintain that the decision forms part of the legal and moral basis of Pakistan’s longstanding position on the Kashmir dispute and remains a significant reference point in the country’s narrative on the issue.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari said that Accession to Pakistan Day serves as a reminder of the historical aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He stated that the people of Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir share deep historical, cultural, and spiritual ties.
The President stressed that the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people should be respected and reiterated Pakistan’s position that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations.
He also called upon the international community to pay attention to the human rights situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid tribute to the Kashmiri people, particularly those who lost their lives during the Kashmir movement and the Hurriyat leadership.
He described the July 19, 1947 resolution as a landmark in the history of the Kashmir movement and said it reflected the collective aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The Interior Minister further stated that the historic resolution demonstrated the enduring commitment of many Kashmiris toward accession to Pakistan.
He added that the relationship between Pakistan and Kashmir is rooted in shared history, faith, and geography, reaffirming Pakistan’s continued support for the Kashmiri people’s internationally recognized right to self-determination.
