WASHINGTON: The White House has revealed during initial interrogation that his primary target was President Donald Trump. The individual also allegedly expressed intentions to target members of the Trump administration, raising serious concerns among federal authorities.
One police officer who sustained injuries during the exchange has since been treated and discharged from the hospital. The authorities have described his condition as stable and improving.
Donald Trump described the attack as “another attempt” on his life, while focusing on that the event was not linked to any international conflict, including tensions involving Iran.
The investigators noted that preliminary findings indicate the suspect does not have a prior criminal record, a factor that has added complexity to the case.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken the lead in the investigation and has surrounded the suspect’s residence. Authorities are currently awaiting a search warrant to conduct a detailed examination of the premises, with the aim of collecting further evidence that may shed light on the planning and intent behind the incident.
In this regard, law enforcement agencies have increased security measures in and around key government locations as a precautionary step.
The incident underlines ongoing challenges faced by security institutions in identifying and preventing threats, particularly when individuals involved do not have a known criminal background.
