UN Chief urges renewed dialogue, says No military solution to Middle East conflict

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has focused on that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East cannot be resolved through military means, calling for an immediate return to negotiations.

In this regard, the destruction, and humanitarian distress across the region, Guterres stated that the situation has made it “abundantly clear” that there is no military solution to the current crisis.

He underlined that continued hostilities would only deepen instability and prolong the suffering of civilians.

The UN chief urged all involved parties to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path toward lasting peace. He called for the resumption of meaningful negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement that addresses the root causes of the conflict.

The constructive engagement and mutual understanding remain essential to de-escalation.

Meanwhile. Guterres also stressed the need to uphold international law. He specifically pointed to the principle of freedom of navigation, including in critical waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz, noting that uninterrupted maritime movement is vital for global trade and regional stability.
