KARACHI: One suspected militant of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed and two others escaped during a joint operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and a federal intelligence agency in Karachi, officials said.

The operation took place near the football ground in Khudadad Colony after authorities received information about the presence of militants of the TTP, also known as Fitna al Khawarij, in the area.

Officials said the suspects opened indiscriminate fire when CTD personnel and intelligence officials raided the area during the night between Sunday and Monday.

The security personnel returned fire after taking positions. One suspect suffered critical injuries in the exchange.

He died from his wounds while security personnel were taking him to hospital.

Authorities shifted his body to Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities.

Two other suspects fled the scene, officials said.

CTD sources said the wounded suspect gave his name as Muti during the operation. Authorities were conducting biometric verification to confirm his identity.

Officials said they recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition from the slain suspect. They also found other spent ammunition casings at the scene.

The suspect was believed to be affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to CTD sources.
