BEIJING: China has warned that US efforts to contain its rise will not only fail but also harm the interests of both countries, a Chinese embassy spokesperson said.
According to international media reports, Liu Pengguo, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the United States, stated that China-US relations should be based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and common interests — not on a zero-sum policy.
“The US strategy of containing and suppressing China will fail,” Liu warned, adding that such an approach could further escalate tensions in the region.
The spokesperson also emphasized that the Taiwan issue is among China’s core interests and has been declared a red line on which no compromise can be made.
Liu called on the United States to abide by the one-China policy and bilateral joint agreements, and to immediately stop providing weapons to Taiwan. The remarks reflect Beijing’s growing frustration with Washington’s military and strategic support for the island, which China considers its territory.
The White House has not yet responded to Liu’s latest comments. Tensions between the two powers have intensified in recent months over trade, technology, and regional security.
