WASHINGTON: US Navy Secretary John C. Flynn has suddenly resigned from his post, officials confirmed. No reason for his departure was given.
President Donald Trump nominated Flynn as Secretary of the Navy in November 2024. At the time, Flynn faced criticism for lacking experience in the Navy, military service, national security policy, and the defense industry.
Flynn appeared before the Senate Committee in February 2025 and was confirmed for the position in March 2025 by a vote of 62 to 30. Following his resignation, Undersecretary Hong Kao will take over as Acting Secretary of the Navy.
The Navy Secretary oversees the administrative, financial, and policy affairs of the US Navy.
Meanwhile, news agencies reported that Flynn’s sudden departure comes during the ongoing Iran War. Earlier, US Army Chief of Staff General Rand George was also dismissed during the conflict.
It was previously reported that US Secretary of War Pat Hegseth forced General Rand George to resign immediately. The back-to-back departures of two senior military leaders during wartime have raised questions about leadership stability within the Pentagon.
