Pak seeks increased US investment in mining, surgical instruments sectors: Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has held meetings with American business leaders, urging greater US investment in Pakistan’s mining and surgical instruments sectors.

During his engagements with US investors and business representatives, Ambassador Sheikh invited American companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in areas linked to mineral resources, value addition and advanced manufacturing.

The ambassador stressed that US investment could play an important role in adding value to Pakistan’s mineral resources and developing commercially viable projects in the sector.

He mentioned the potential for cooperation between Pakistani and American businesses to promote investment, technology transfer and industrial development.

In this regard, Ambassador Sheikh also welcomed a joint project worth $200 million aimed at promoting the export of Pakistani pink salt.

He described the initiative as a positive development for strengthening Pakistan’s mineral-based exports and encouraged further investment in the sector.

The ambassador also called for increased American investment in Pakistan’s surgical instruments industry, a sector with an established export base and significant potential for further modernization.

Ambassador Sheikh visited a facility in Naperville associated with the finishing, packaging and distribution of Pakistani surgical instruments.

During the visit, he reviewed the role of the facility in supporting the international distribution of Pakistani-made medical equipment.

He focused on the need for greater adoption of modern technology, technical training and skills development in Pakistan’s surgical instruments sector.

Meanwhile, the stronger cooperation with US businesses could help Pakistani manufacturers improve production standards, expand their international presence and create new opportunities for skilled workers.

The ambassador also met with office-bearers of the Pakistan-American Chicago Land Chamber of Commerce.

Ambassador Sheikh’s engagements come as Pakistan seeks to attract greater foreign investment and expand cooperation with international businesses in key economic sectors.

The Pakistani government has increasingly mentioned minerals, manufacturing and export-oriented industries as areas offering opportunities for foreign investors.

The ambassador encouraged American business leaders to consider Pakistan as an investment destination and explore partnerships that could contribute to economic growth and stronger commercial relations between the two countries.

The meetings also mentioned the importance of closer engagement between Pakistani and American business communities to promote investment, technology, skills development and market access.
