MUZAFFARABAD: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Captain (retd.) Liaquat Ali Malik, has exposed the nefarious agenda of banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of attempting to create unrest in the region and alleged that its members subjected the family of police martyr Aqib to severe mistreatment.
In this regard, the IG was addressing a ceremony held in Muzaffarabad on the occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day, the AJK police chief said the alleged actions of the banned group exposed what he described as the “real face” of those portraying themselves as advocates of peace.
In this sense, as per the IGP, the members of the JAAC abducted family members who were present to receive the body of martyr Aqib.
He said that those who criticise the Kashmir Police from outside the region should first ask the martyr’s father about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police chief further alleged that members of the group subjected the martyr’s family to physical abuse and humiliation and recorded inappropriate videos.
He said Aqib sustained injuries and embraced martyrdom in an ambulance, while the body was allegedly kept for four days by the banned committee.
However, Captain (retd.) Liaquat Ali Malik questioned the narrative being presented by what he described as propagandists who, according to him, were commenting on events without understanding the ground realities.
“Who should be called the oppressor, the person who was brutally killed, or the one protecting the country?” the IGP asked, stressing that a different standard of justice should not be applied to security personnel.
He said police officers who are injured by gunfire are sometimes portrayed as perpetrators, while those allegedly responsible for firing at them are presented as victims. “What kind of justice is this?” he questioned.
The IGP maintained that the alleged anti-state propaganda campaign by the banned Action Committee was aimed at creating instability and disorder in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the authorities had succeeded in countering what he described as a conspiracy to spread unrest in the region, adding that the sacrifices of police personnel would not be allowed to be undermined by misinformation or propaganda.
