QUETTA: Authorities have imposed Section 144 across Balochistan for 30 days, while security restrictions have been tightened in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Attock ahead of a possible Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march planned for Sept. 27.
In Balochistan, the provincial authorities have prohibited public gatherings, sit-ins, rallies and demonstrations under the order, according to a notification issued by the government. The restrictions also prohibit people from covering their faces or wearing veils in public places.
The order is effective across the province for one month, while law enforcement agencies and district administrations have been directed to ensure its implementation.
Meanwhile, Islamabad’s district administration has also imposed Section 144, banning public gatherings in the federal capital amid security concerns linked to the possible PTI march.
Separately, mobile phone and internet services are expected to be suspended in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Attock on Sept. 26 and 27 as part of security measures, according to officials and media reports.
Authorities have also restricted traffic on major routes connecting the federal capital with other parts of the country. According to the National Highways and Motorway Police, sections of the M-1, M-14 and N-5 highways are being closed in both directions.
The M-1 has been closed between the Islamabad Toll Plaza and Chachh Interchange, while the M-14 is closed between Hakla and Kundal. The GT Road has also been closed at Attock Khurd, according to traffic authorities.
The measures come ahead of the expected arrival of PTI protest caravans in Islamabad on Sept. 27, with the convoy expected to be led by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister.

A high-level security meeting held earlier this week had discussed road closures and other measures aimed at maintaining law and order ahead of the planned protest, according to media reports.
