Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has signalled its readiness to engage in political dialogue with the federal government, with Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas calling for the formation of a political committee by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address the country’s ongoing political challenges.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions and preparations for a planned PTI protest and march on September 27.
Raja Nasir Abbas said political committees from both sides should sit together to find solutions to the issues facing the country.
He urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to constitute a committee comprising political representatives and said the opposition remained ready for negotiations.
According to Abbas, meaningful dialogue involving empowered political leaders could help address the current political situation. He maintained that the doors for talks remained open whenever the government was prepared to engage.
The Senate opposition leader also stressed that negotiations should involve individuals with sufficient authority to make decisions, rather than representatives without the power to resolve major issues.
Barrister Gohar Says Federal Contacts Are Ongoing
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan also said that contacts with relevant people at the federal level had been continuing since the previous night.
As per the Gohar, the party had conveyed its position regarding recent developments and urged the relevant authorities to avoid further measures that could intensify tensions.
He warned that additional arrests could make the situation more difficult and called for steps to prevent the political environment from deteriorating further. His comments came amid reports of arrests and detention of PTI-linked figures and family members of party founder Imran Khan.
Despite the call for dialogue, Gohar indicated that the party’s political mobilisation remained part of its strategy. The PTI has been preparing for a nationwide protest and march scheduled for September 27, with the party saying it is seeking the release of Imran Khan and raising constitutional and political demands.
Gohar said the PTI was not seeking to march on Islamabad simply for confrontation. He argued that the party had raised its concerns in Parliament, the Senate and other forums but believed its demands had not received an adequate response.
He questioned what options remained for the opposition if political concerns were not addressed through parliamentary or political channels.
Dialogue and Political Pressure Continue
The latest statements indicate that dialogue and political mobilisation are currently developing alongside each other. The opposition alliance has also formed a six-member committee to consult political parties and work towards agreement on the agenda of a proposed multi-party conference.

Whether the government’s response leads to formal negotiations remains to be seen. For now, PTI leaders are publicly calling for political engagement while maintaining their stated plans for protest, leaving the possibility of dialogue open amid continuing political tensions.
