LAHOR: The Lahore High Court on Thursday declined a request to immediately suspend the detention notifications issued against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, and Noreen Niazi.
Justice Abher Gul Khan heard petitions challenging the detention orders. Lawyers Rana Mudassar Umar and Barrister Taimur appeared on behalf of Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, while Advocate Farrukh Lodhi represented the Punjab government.
The court rejected the petitioners’ request for an immediate suspension of the detention notifications and issued notices to the relevant parties, seeking their responses.
Justice Abher Gul Khan said the court would seek reports from the concerned authorities before proceeding further.
During the hearing, Rana Mudassar Umar requested the court to give him two minutes to argue for suspension of the detention notifications, saying he wanted to present certain facts before the court.
He argued that both women were homemakers and claimed that Dr Uzma Khan had already been acquitted in a case registered against her.
The lawyer said a copy of the trial court’s decision was available on the case record.
Noreen Niazi’s daughter Sakina and others had filed petitions through their lawyer Rana Mudassar Umar, seeking the cancellation of the detention notification issued by the deputy commissioner.
