ISLAMABAD: The government has announced an increase of up to 16.17 percent in the prices of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), with the revised rates taking immediate effect.
In this regard, as per the notification, the LNG price on the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) system has been increased by $2.54 per MMBtu, raising the new price to $19.52 per MMBtu.
Similarly, the LNG price on the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) system has been increased by $2.59 per MMBtu, bringing the revised price to $18.64 per MMBtu.
The notification states that the new LNG prices are effective immediately. Previously, the LNG price for SSGC stood at $16.04 per MMBtu in May, while the price for SNGPL was $16.98 per MMBtu.
The latest adjustment reflects a significant increase in energy costs for both gas distribution networks.
The announcement comes as the government continues to implement broader economic measures aimed at improving the country’s financial outlook and attracting investment.
Meanwhile, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatization, Muhammad Ali, said the government has decided to further expand the country’s tax net as part of its economic reform agenda.
So far, Muhammad Ali said the government’s top priorities include promoting investment, encouraging greater participation by the private sector, and broadening the tax base to strengthen national revenue.
He added that efforts are underway to create a more investment-friendly environment across the country, expressing confidence that Pakistan’s economy is moving toward greater stability.
The adviser said that the airports in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore are being handed over to the private sector under the government’s reform program.
He also noted that construction work on five-star hotels in the federal capital is continuing as part of broader efforts to enhance investment opportunities and support economic development.
