ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert for flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides from July 18 to 23, with northeastern Balochistan placed on high alert as heavy monsoon rains threaten to trigger flash floods in seasonal streams and hill torrents across the province.
According to the advisory issued by the NDMA’s National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), the districts of Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Harnai, Sibi, Kohlu, and Jaffarabad have been identified as particularly vulnerable to flash flooding. The authority warned that heavy downpours could result in flash flooding in seasonal streams and hill torrents across both Balochistan and Punjab, with the situation being closely monitored through constant coordination with relevant departments.
In addition to the flood risk in Balochistan, the NDMA has warned of rising water levels in the Chenab and Ravi rivers and their tributaries, advising residents living in low-lying areas to remain vigilant. The agency has also expressed the possibility of urban flooding in various cities of Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 18 to 23, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Sheikhupura, while low-lying areas of Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, and Charsadda may face inundation.
The NDMA has directed all relevant authorities to keep emergency machinery and rescue teams on high alert and ensure preparedness for any emergency situation. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, seasonal streams, flooded roads, and vulnerable mountain slopes. The public has also been directed to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for authentic information and safety measures.
