Is the Punjab Minimum Wage Rs. 40,000? 2026 Assembly Bill Update

Punjab Moves to Regulate Minimum Wage at Rs. 40,000

LAHORE:  The Punjab government is determined to regulate the minimum wage at Rs. 40,000, as the Punjab Assembly has passed an amendment bill to the Employees’ Social Security Ordinance 1965 with a majority vote.

According to the bill, modern legal reforms have been proposed under the Provincial Employees Social Security Act 2026, which will amend the 1965 law.

While the minimum wage has increased to Rs. 40,000, the maximum salary limit remains fixed at Rs. 22,000, creating legal complications.

The bill also emphasizes the need to validate social security contributions paid since July 2022, as outdated laws have caused administrative difficulties.

The final approval of the bill will be given by the Governor of Punjab.
