TEHRAN: Footage has emerged appearing to show the impact of American airstrikes on the strategic port city of Chabahar in southeastern Iran, as the United States expanded its military campaign deep into Iranian territory for a second consecutive night .
The strikes targeted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy’s Imam Ali Base, a key military installation located in Chabahar on the Gulf of Oman, hundreds of miles east of the Strait of Hormuz . The expanded reach of the operation marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, moving beyond the critical waterway that has been the primary flashpoint .
Iranian state media reported that power was knocked out in parts of Chabahar following the strikes, and the city’s Imam Ali hospital was struck by shrapnel fragments . Approximately ten explosions were heard in Chabahar and the nearby coastal city of Konarak, according to Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency .
Simultaneously, explosions were reported in Bushehr province on the opposite end of Iran’s coastline along the Persian Gulf, indicating a coordinated, multi-front assault . The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it was conducting additional strikes against Iran “to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz” .
The attacks came hours after U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire with Iran was “over” while attending a NATO summit in Türkiye . Iran claims to have shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone and struck 85 U.S. military targets in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation, though these claims have not been independently verified . Iran also reported one serviceman was killed in the strikes .
