Iran-US talks to begin shortly as delegations arrive in Burgenstock

BURGENSTOCK: The high-level Pakistani delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived at Switzerland’s Burgenstock resort on Sunday to participate in crucial technical-level discussions aimed at advancing a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States.

The Pakistani delegation joined representatives from Iran, the United States, and Qatar as efforts intensified to finalize details of a framework designed to end ongoing hostilities and promote regional stability.

The talks are expected to focus on implementing measures agreed upon under the MoU, including steps toward ending the conflict, easing the US blockade on Iran, and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

In this regard, as per the Swiss Foreign Ministry, the discussions between the participating delegations are scheduled to begin shortly after the arrival of the teams at the venue.

The negotiations are being viewed as a significant diplomatic effort aimed at reducing tensions and creating conditions for lasting peace in the region.

Pakistan’s state broadcaster, PTV, reported from Burgenstock that the technical-level talks between the US and Iranian delegations could continue into Monday if necessary.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told Iran’s official news agency IRNA that the current plan calls for a one-day session.

The agenda includes bilateral meetings involving mediators Pakistan and Qatar during the morning, followed by quadrilateral discussions among all participating parties later in the day.

Pakistan is expected to play an active diplomatic role throughout the process. In a statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistani officials will hold separate bilateral meetings with delegations from Iran, Qatar, Switzerland, and the United States.

The purpose of these engagements is to confirm Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and sustainable peace in the region.

The outcome of the discussions is being closely watched by regional and international stakeholders, who hope the dialogue will contribute to stability, improved relations, and a peaceful resolution of longstanding tensions.
