Gwadar Port Set to Transform Pakistan into Global Trade Hub: Balochistan Governor

KARACHI: Gwadar Port has the potential to transform Pakistan into a major hub for global trade and economic activity, paving the way for long-term national and regional prosperity, Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail said during a meeting with senior Chinese diplomats in Karachi.

The governor made the remarks during talks with Feng Daheng, Acting Consul General of China, which were also attended by Political Director Zhang Song and Wang Zhaoxiang.

According to an official statement, the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, expanding economic ties, and exploring opportunities for development in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province.

Mandokhail described the 75-year friendship between Pakistan and China as a model of mutual trust, strategic partnership, and shared development. He emphasized that the full operationalization of Gwadar Port could play a pivotal role in integrating Pakistan into regional and international trade networks while generating significant economic opportunities for both the country and Balochistan.

The governor also highlighted the importance of Chinese cooperation in modern education, artificial intelligence, and technology, particularly for empowering Balochistan’s youth and preparing them for emerging economic opportunities.

For his part, Acting Consul General Feng acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the country.

He expressed strong interest in expanding investment in Balochistan, strengthening infrastructure development, and supporting projects aimed at improving public welfare and economic growth in the province.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to further enhancing Pakistan-China relations and promoting closer people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
