QUETTA: Security forces killed five militants in an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Panjgur district on Monday, security sources said.
The operation took place in the Siahan Range in the Chedgi area under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3, the sources said.
They identified one of the militants as Wazir Waleed Jamal. Security sources described him as a key commander of Fitna al Hindustan.
Security forces recovered four motorcycles, machine guns and a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the militants, the sources said.
A clearance operation remained under way in the area, they added.
The latest operation followed a similar action in Khuzdar district on July 30.
Security forces killed four militants linked to Fitna al Hindustan and destroyed two explosives-laden vehicles in that operation, according to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The vehicles were configured as vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, or VBIEDs, ISPR said.
Security forces intercepted the vehicles before they could reach their targets. They then destroyed both vehicles and killed the four militants operating them, according to ISPR.

The military said the militants were backed by India. Reuters could not independently verify the claim.
