SWABI : In a tragic incident, five people, including a father and his two sons, drowned in the Indus River on Saturday, rescue officials confirmed.
According to Rescue 1122, the deceased were identified as Awais, 26, a resident of Charsadda; Shakeel, 45, a resident of Mardan; Sharjeel, 20, a resident of Mardan; Khizr, 16, a resident of Mardan; and Mashal, 14, a resident of Yar Hussain.
Rescue sources confirmed that Shakeel was the father of Sharjeel and Khizr, making the loss particularly devastating for the family.
The incident occurred when the group reportedly entered the river for swimming or recreation, but was swept away by strong currents. The Indus River, known for its unpredictable and treacherous waters during this season, has claimed numerous lives in the past.
Rescue 1122 Swabi diving teams have launched a search and rescue operation to recover the bodies. Officials stated that efforts are ongoing, and divers are combing the area to locate the remaining victims.
Local authorities have urged residents to avoid swimming in the river, especially during the current high-flow season, and to exercise extreme caution near water bodies.
