First-Ever International Bunkering Operation successfully completed at Gwadar Port

GWADAR: The National Logistics Corporation (NLC), in collaboration with global energy trader Vitol, has successfully completed the first international bunkering operation at Gwadar Port.

The milestone was achieved through the supply of 2,500 metric tons of International Maritime Organization (IMO)-compliant Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) to the LNG vessel ENUGU, a ship owned by a United Arab Emirates-based company.

In this regard, the marine fuel supplied during the operation was refined and produced by Cnergyico PK Limited at its refinery in Pakistan. The successful completion of the inaugural bunkering operation indicates an important step toward strengthening Pakistan’s marine fuel supply chain and expanding the country’s role in regional maritime trade.

The operation is also expected to encourage greater confidence among global shipping companies seeking reliable refueling facilities along major international sea routes.

The development comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions across regional maritime corridors, making alternative and dependable bunkering locations increasingly important for international shipping companies.

In this sense, Gwadar Port is being viewed as a credible alternative bunkering hub capable of serving international sea-going vessels while increasing the resilience of regional maritime logistics.

The successful operation also reflects growing cooperation between Pakistani and international stakeholders in developing the country’s maritime infrastructure.

It is expected to pave the way for additional commercial bunkering activities, attract greater international shipping traffic, and create new opportunities for investment in Pakistan’s port and energy sectors.

The inaugural bunkering operation at Gwadar Port is widely regarded as a landmark achievement that underscores Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its maritime capabilities, supporting international trade, and expanding its presence in the global marine fuel market.
