WANA: A powerful explosion was reported in the Wana Bazaar area near Gulshan Plaza in Lower South Waziristan on Monday.
According to initial reports, the incident was a hand grenade attack targeting Ahmadzai Wazir tribe chief Malik Tariq. Reports suggest that Malik Tariq and two others- Malik Sarfaraz Khan, and Yargul Khel Jan- were killed. Two others were sustained injuries in the blast.
According to local sources, Malik Tariq Khan’s vehicle was targeted in the blast. Police said the injured were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Wana.
Police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.
In December 2024, the Taliban allegedly abducted Malik Tariq, but he was later released following the intervention of tribal elders.
