Dar, Saudi Counterpart Urge Restraint and Dialogue Amid Regional Escalation

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Saturday to discuss the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, expressing deep concern that renewed hostilities threaten regional peace despite the recently signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

According to a statement from the Foreign Office spokesperson, the two leaders agreed that the renewed conflict serves no one’s interest and undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts for regional peace and stability. The Islamabad MoU, brokered by Pakistan and signed in June 2026, was intended to provide a pathway toward a permanent agreement between Washington and Tehran, but indirect talks in Qatar recently ended without progress.

The Saudi Foreign Minister shared the Kingdom’s perspective on ongoing diplomatic efforts and emphasized the importance of de-escalation and continued dialogue. Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed that reducing tensions remains critical for regional stability.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar, reaffirming Pakistan’s position, urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and allow mediation efforts the necessary time and space to achieve a peaceful and meaningful outcome. The two Foreign Ministers also agreed to remain in constant touch and continue consultations on the evolving regional situation.

The call comes amid heightened tensions following fresh military exchanges between the US and Iran, which have put the Pakistan-brokered roadmap to peace under renewed strain.
