QUETTA: A series of deadly attacks on non-local workers in Balochistan province has raised fresh concerns over the security of laborers involved in mining, infrastructure and development projects.
The victims, many of them from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, were targeted while working on projects aimed at improving the province’s infrastructure and economy. The terrorists groups, also known as Fitna al Hindustan, attacking them to discourage investment and disrupt development.
Below is a timeline of the major incidents reported in 2026.
April 23 – Chagai District
Nine mine workers killed
Armed militants stormed a mining site in Chagai district and killed nine workers. Most of the victims were non-local laborers employed at the mine, making it one of the deadliest attacks on workers this year.
July 4–8 – Gwadar
Five members of a laborer’s family killed
During coordinated militant attacks across Balochistan, gunmen attacked a residential area housing laborers in Gwadar. Five members of a worker’s family from outside the province were killed.
Late July – Mashkel, Washuk District
Five Punjab workers shot dead
Gunmen killed five laborers from Punjab who were employed on development projects in the remote Mashkel area. Pakistani officials condemned the killings as an attack on civilians contributing to the province’s development.
July 27 – Kalatak, Kech District
One worker killed, six abducted
Armed militants attacked a group of non-local laborers in Kalatak, near Turbat. One worker, Javed, from Swabi district, was shot dead on the spot.
The attackers abducted six others:

- Muhammad Taimoor (Bahawalpur, Punjab)
- Muhammad Parvez (Bahawalpur, Punjab)
- Muhammad Wazir (Bahawalpur, Punjab)
- Muhammad Amjad (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa)
- Muhammad Yahya (Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa)
July 30 – Turbat (Kech District)
Bodies of six abducted workers recovered
Authorities recovered the bodies of the six laborers abducted three days earlier. Officials said the victims had been killed after being held captive.
The workers had been employed on development projects in Balochistan and had traveled from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in search of work.
Growing Pattern
The attacks reflect a sustained pattern of violence against non-local workers in Balochistan during 2026. The victims have primarily been laborers, miners and construction workers employed on infrastructure and development projects.
Pakistani authorities have accused separatist militant groups, including the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), of targeting civilians to undermine economic development, discourage outside investment and create insecurity in the province.
The repeated attacks have renewed concerns about the safety of thousands of workers from across Pakistan who are employed on road, mining and public infrastructure projects in Balochistan, one of the country’s largest but least-developed provinces.
