ISLAMABAD: The international organisation monitoring terrorism in afghanistan have backed claims of Pakistan that Afghan Taliban are backing militant groups in Afghanistan.
Pakistan security forces said that the Afghan Taliban administration has provided protection and operational space to groups referred to by Pakistani officials as “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
It was stated that cross-border infiltration into Pakistan has been facilitated from Afghan territory.
Security sources said militant groups have been used as a “strategic asset” against Pakistan.
A video reportedly featuring militant commander Abdul Hamid Khorasani was circulated on social media. The video allegedly showed threats of attacks against Pakistan from Afghanistan’s Kunar province.
In the video message, the commander was quoted as saying that most fighters were present in the area and awaiting orders.
It was also stated that instructions were awaited to target Pakistani security forces.
Further statements attributed to the commander called for support to Afghan leadership and described militant readiness for action.
Security analysts were cited as saying that alignment of militant commanders with Afghan Taliban directives indicates organisational backing of such groups.
Pakistan has previously presented what it describes as evidence of cross-border militancy at international forums, according to officials.
The presence of such groups in Afghan territory was cited by analysts as justification for continued counterterrorism operations, including Pakistan’s ongoing security measures.
