MIRPUR: A prominent member of the banned Awami Action Committee (AAC) has announced his disassociation from the organization, citing concerns that the group has deviated from its original mission of advocating public welfare and rights.
Usman Mushtaq, described as an active AAC member and a close associate of the group’s leader Khawaja Mehran, said he had decided to sever all ties with the organization following his participation in a recent sit-in protest in Rawalakot.
In a statement, Mushtaq said he had joined the demonstration alongside Khawaja Mehran but reconsidered his affiliation after closely observing developments during the protest.
“After witnessing the situation firsthand, I realized that the organization has moved away from its initial claims and public rights agenda,” he said.
Mushtaq noted that he had originally supported the AAC because it campaigned on issues directly affecting ordinary citizens, including subsidized flour, electricity prices, and access to health cards. However, he said subsequent events convinced him that the group’s current activities and direction no longer reflected those objectives.
“What began as a movement focused on public welfare has, in my view, evolved into something that no longer represents the interests and concerns of the people,” he added.
Mushtaq also urged young people to remain vigilant against propaganda and provocation, calling on them to assess facts carefully and avoid becoming involved with individuals or groups that may seek to mislead them.
His announcement comes amid continuing debate and scrutiny surrounding the activities and political objectives of the Awami Action Committee in Azad Kashmir.
