All airports across the country remain open despite major airline suspensions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Airports Authority has confirmed that all airports across the country remain fully operational, despite major airlines announcing suspensions of flight services.

The PAA spokesperson Saifullah Khan told to media representatives, clarified that “all airports across Pakistan are open, and flight cancellations are at the discretion of each airline.” 

Furthermore, this clarification comes just a day after Emirates Airlines announced a complete suspension of its operations across Pakistan until May 10, citing “ongoing uncertainty surrounding access to the country’s airspace and airports.”

In addition, Qatar Airways has also halted flights to and from both Pakistan and India. In a statement posted on social media platform, the airline confirmed that all inbound and outbound flights between Doha and six Pakistani cities, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar, Sialkot, as well as Amritsar in India, are suspended from May 8 to May 10.

The twin suspension by two Gulf carriers has left thousands of passengers stranded or scrambling for alternatives, especially during a time of high travel demand. In such a scenario, there is no official reason has been given for the “uncertainty” referenced by the airlines, the move has raised fresh questions about regional airspace stability. The Pakistan Airports Authority reasserted that it is not imposing any airspace or operational restrictions and encouraged passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight statuses.
