DERA MURAD JAMALI : At least 15 people sustained injuries, several of them critical, in an armed clash between two factions of the Marri tribe over the distribution of irrigation water in Dera Allah Yar, police confirmed on Saturday.
The violent confrontation erupted in the Yhat Garh area of Dera Allah Yar when a long-standing dispute over the rotation and sharing of agricultural water escalated into an exchange of heavy gunfire between the two rival groups. Witnesses said both sides used automatic weapons, turning the rural locality into a battleground.
Police officials said that upon receiving information about the incident, law enforcement teams swiftly reached the scene and brought the situation under control. The injured were rushed to Labour Hospital, Dera Allah Yar, where they received initial medical attention. Six of the wounded, suffering from serious bullet injuries, were later referred to Larkana for advanced treatment.
Following the clash, police launched a crackdown in the area and arrested six individuals allegedly involved in the hostilities. Authorities have registered a case and are conducting further investigations to determine the root cause of the conflict and identify other culprits.
“The situation is now fully under control, and additional police contingents have been deployed to prevent any further flare-up,” a senior police officer said. He also appealed to tribal elders to mediate and help resolve the water dispute amicably.
This incident underscores the recurring tensions over water resources in the region, where irrigation is the lifeline of agriculture and disputes often turn deadly in the absence of timely administrative intervention.
