BRUSSELS: During a routine renovation project in the Belgian town of Sint-Gillis-Dendermonde, construction workers replacing a sewer line stumbled upon a massive hidden fortune worth approximately $14 million USD (over 2.5 billion Pakistani rupees).
While clearing the foundation to install new pipes, workers noticed something shining. Initially mistaking the objects for one-euro coins, they quickly realized it was genuine gold.
According to Mario, a manager with 33 years of construction experience, the team unearthed numerous gold coins and bullion in what proved to be an astonishing discovery.
Unfortunately for the crew, local laws required them to hand the treasure over to the police, and the gold is currently held by a charitable organization.
The original owner of the wealth remains unknown, though the building previously belonged to a wealthy family.
Under Belgian law, the rightful owner has five years to claim the treasure; otherwise, it will be divided between the finders and the property owner.
