LAHORE: At least seven people were killed and three others injured after the roof of a dilapidated three-story residential building collapsed during heavy rain in Lahore on Thursday night, rescue officials said.
The incident occurred in the Harbanspura area, near Bhatta Muhammad Din Colony along the Sukh Nehar.
According to Rescue 1122, the collapse took place at around 10:15 p.m. local time.
Officials said the building’s roof, constructed with mud and T-irons, gave way after recent monsoon rains weakened the structure.
Three families were living in the building when it collapsed.
Rescue workers recovered the bodies of seven victims from the rubble and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities said search and rescue operations were still underway as more people were feared trapped beneath the debris.
More than 20 rescue personnel, supported by six emergency vehicles and heavy machinery, continued clearing the rubble late into the night.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the loss of life and offered condolences to the victims’ families.
She directed the deputy commissioner of Lahore and other administrative officials to reach the site immediately and ensure the injured received the best possible medical treatment.

The latest incident comes amid a series of roof and building collapses in Lahore during the ongoing monsoon season. Similar accidents have recently been reported in Shalimar Road, Shadab Colony, and Kahna, raising fresh concerns about the safety of aging and poorly maintained buildings.
