FIA Arrests Former Customs Collector in 400kg Silver Theft Case

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested five additional suspects, including a former Customs Collector, in connection with the theft of 400 kilograms of silver.

The incident, which first came to light in April of this year, involved the replacement of pure silver with lead bars within the Customs Department.

Following a thorough investigation utilizing advanced digital forensics and intelligence, the FIA registered a case regarding the theft and smuggling of the precious metal.

According to the FIA, the thieves replaced one-kilogram pure silver bars with fake lead bars. The five newly arrested individuals include former Customs Collector Dr. Karam Elahi.

Two preventive officers, Arif Ali and Samiullah, were previously arrested in the same case, and authorities have already recovered 214 kilograms of the stolen silver along with 4.9 million rupees in cash from the suspects.

Operations are currently underway to apprehend other absconding suspects, including two inspectors.
