Note on Gold Prices in Pakistan Over the Past Five Years

Over the past five years, the trajectory of gold prices in Pakistan has been characterized by an unprecedented and sharp upward spiral, driven by a combination of domestic economic instability, massive currency depreciation, and soaring global inflation.

As the Pakistani Rupee faced severe devaluation against the US Dollar, investors and common citizens increasingly turned to gold as a safe-haven asset to protect their savings against hyperinflation and eroding purchasing power.

This heightened domestic demand, compounded by international market fluctuations driven by geopolitical tensions, central bank policies, and global economic uncertainties, caused local gold rates to shatter previous records year after year.

While gold was once viewed primarily as a traditional investment or bridal necessity, it has evolved into a primary financial buffer for many households facing economic volatility.

However, these skyrocketing prices have severely dampened the local retail jewellery market, making traditional purchases increasingly out of reach for average consumers and significantly shifting market dynamics across the country.
