Pakistan Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms in Northern Regions

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has forecast hot and humid weather across most parts of the country on Friday, with rain, thunderstorms and windstorms expected in several northern regions later in the day.

According to the department, a weak westerly weather system is affecting the upper parts of the country, while a low-pressure area persists over western Balochistan, increasing the likelihood of rainfall in several areas.

Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to experience hot and humid conditions during the day. However, there is a 35% chance of rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the evening or night.

In Punjab, isolated windstorms and thunderstorms with rain are forecast for Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Khushab, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Kasur and Mandi Bahauddin.

Rain is also expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Flood Forecasting Division said all major rivers are currently flowing at normal levels, with no flood situation reported anywhere in the country.

However, the division warned that moderate to widespread rainfall is likely over the upper catchment areas of major rivers, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern and central Punjab during the next 24 to 48 hours.

As a result, river flows are expected to rise slightly between July 11 and July 13, though no major flooding is anticipated.

The Flood Forecasting Division has advised relevant authorities to closely monitor the weather situation and continue precautionary measures.
