Quetta: Under the Balochistan Socio-Economic Development Initiative, new employment opportunities are emerging for the region’s youth.
As part of the Kharan Rifles Digital Skills Initiative, an E-Commerce IT Center has been established in the Kharan district of Balochistan.
Currently, four experts are actively training students in advanced digital and e-commerce skills at the facility.
The broader project aims to establish e-commerce laboratories across 150 public and private colleges in Balochistan by December 2026.
So far, labs in 40 colleges have either been fully completed or are in the final stages of completion.
Once fully operational, these e-commerce labs are expected to generate employment opportunities for nearly 15,000 graduates from Balochistan every year.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in promoting skills development, employment, and the digital economy across the province.
Balochistan Government’s Measures to Enhance Youth Employment
Faced with a burgeoning youth population and limited industrial infrastructure, the Government of Balochistan has increasingly turned its focus toward digital transformation, technical vocational training, and entrepreneurship to curb unemployment.
Recognizing that traditional public sector jobs are finite, recent provincial strategies emphasize equipping the youth with market-driven, globally competitive skills.
Key measures include collaborating with federal agencies and organizations like the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) to offer specialized courses in high-demand trades.
Furthermore, the provincial government has heavily invested in digital literacy programs, setting up software houses, incubation centers, and IT labs in remote districts to bridge the digital divide.
By enabling youth to access the global freelancing market, these initiatives allow graduates to earn livelihoods remotely, bypassing local geographical limitations.
Additionally, the government has introduced interest-free loan schemes and small business grants specifically targeted at young entrepreneurs, encouraging self-employment.
hrough public-private partnerships and targeted socio-economic initiatives—often supported by security forces in border regions—the government aims to channel youth energy away from instability and toward the mainstream digital economy.
