DALBANDIN: Police in Balochistan’s Dalbandin district have recovered a massive haul of prohibited ammunition during a patrol in a mountainous area, officials said Saturday.
A team from City Police Station Dalbandin, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Waheed Ahmed Baloch, acted on a tip-off and cordoned off a hilly region near Sur Gul Chilgazi Road. Following an extensive search, law enforcement personnel discovered 48 boxes hidden in a drain-like depression within the terrain.
Each box contained 85 rounds of anti-aircraft heavy machine gun ammunition, bringing the total recovery to over 4,080 rounds, police confirmed.
According to preliminary investigations, unknown suspects had stashed the ammunition in the remote area with the intent to smuggle it into the country. The location and concealment method suggest the cache was meant for onward transportation to conflict-prone regions.
All recovered boxes were seized and sealed on the spot. Police have registered a case under Section 15 of the Arms Act against unidentified perpetrators.
No arrests have been made in connection with the operation so far. Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the ammunition and identify the smuggling network behind the cache.
This recovery marks one of the significant arms hauls in the district in recent months, highlighting ongoing concerns over illegal weapons trafficking in Balochistan’s border regions.
