GILGIT-BALTISTAN:  The body of a French climber who was struck by an avalanche on Hoshe Ki Peak (K-6) in the Ganchhe district has been recovered, sources confirmed.

According to sources speaking to Express News, 40-year-old Pierre Guillaume lost his life after being hit by an avalanche during an expedition to scale the 7,282-meter peak. He was part of a three-member international mountaineering team attempting to summit K-6.

Local climbers successfully retrieved Guillaume’s body following a rescue operation. The rescue team—identified as Ghulam Abbas, Sajjad Hussain, Ismail Kathir, and Idrees Jamali—transported the body to a secure location and prepared a temporary helipad to facilitate helicopter landing.

Authorities stated that if weather conditions remain favorable, the body will be airlifted to Skardu by helicopter today.

Sources further confirmed that Guillaume’s fellow climbers, along with local guides and support staff, are also at the same safe location and are unharmed.
